Well, it's really Gustav, but I think he should have changed it to that. Two years into writing this Sci-Fi awesomeness that is my YA novel.........and I'm still researching and researching and researching. More characters have been developed and even sketched and a few kick ass plot lines have been hatched.
The newest research is: Jung. I don't know why they push Freud down our throats in college, he's kinda creepy. Sex this, sex that...get over your self man! I'm only 50 pages in to this ridiculously massive Jung book but I think he and I would have been total bffs. Just sayin'. Though- my way of speaking includes much slang and a slight southern drawl (though I'm from the NE) I've been having to read this book in a British accent to myself just to understand Big-Words-McGee's language. Culture shock aside...total bffs.

which leads to your 2nd quote. mythology simply serves to teach the abstract. a scientist can qualify the endomorphic chemical cascade produced in the brain when i see you after an extended period of time, but they could never explain the effect it has on my spirit, life or soul. there is no way to reproduce a tingle in a test tube!
#3: in the lord of the rings, and to paraphrase badly perhaps, "...history becomes myth and myth becomes legend." there is a communal conciousness that trancends the temporal. a sort of psychic version of our collective dna. we inherit, wanted or unwanted, a collective memory, however recessive. this is why the red neck fears the dark and why you run wildly to greet it!
and finally, number 4. what is ambition other than a striving for something that is as yet unformed, in our own time? the form simply takes on the limits of the time we find our selves in. julius caesar would have loved a flush toilet, but alas....
